CellTran, the Sheffield based life sciences company, has developed wound care treatment based on the healing power of a patient’s own cells. CellTran launched its chronic wound product (Myskin™) in the UK in 2005. Two key components underpin CellTran’s technology: the culture of a patient’s own cells for treatment of their wounds; and the development of novel transfer materials on which specific cell types may be cultured. This technology is proprietary, scaleable and transferable. Sales are made by direct contact with opinion forming clinicians in the National Health Service via its exclusive distributor, Vernon Carus (a major supplier to the NHS in the wound care sector).

Initial funding of £100,000 invested by the Yorkshire & Humber Equity Fund was used to boost sales growth and enable further development of the product. Our investment has now facilitated a larger syndicate investment of £2.6 million (including a further £150,000 from YHEF, the first tranche of which has recently been invested. This investment should take Cellran through to profitability.
